Dier en Zorg Plan

Dier en Zorg Plan

A healthy and happy life for your pet

Prevention is better than cure. The Dier en Zorg Plan focuses on your pet’s health. By offering preventative healthcare to your dog or cat, you can prevent them from becoming ill. You’ll keep parasites out and protect your pet against infectious animal diseases - which lowers the health care costs in the long run. The Dier en Zorg Plan is an annual subscription at Evi Dierenartsen. By paying a monthly fee you will save on your annual fixed veterinary costs. For example, vaccines and health checks are covered by the Dier en Zorg Plan, as well as anti-parasitic medication.

The Dier en Zorg Plan makes it easier for you to monitor your pet’s health. Additionally, you will save
money.

How does the Dier en Zorg Plan work?

The Dier en Zorg Plan is paid on a monthly schedule by means of direct debit. During your subscription you
can collect the products from the Dier en Zorg Plan at no additional cost. As you know, we attach great
importance to disease prevention, which is why the Dier en Zorg Plan also includes regular health checks.
Medical problems can be recognized at an early stage or may even be prevented. This extends the life of your
pet! The Dier en Zorg Plan is a preventive health plan, which means it is not an insurance! If you wish, you
can take out insurance for unforeseen costs in addition to the Dier en Zorg Plan. We will be happy to inform
you further.

Vaccination advice

The health of your dog, cat or rabbit is of the utmost importance to you. A safe home, enough
exercise, a healthy and appropriate diet and a lot of love are important ingredients for a happy and
healthy life for your pet. But how can you protect your dog, cat or rabbit from an infectious and
sometimes deadly disease? The answer is simple: have your pet vaccinated against these diseases!

Health check

When we vaccinate a pet it is important that he or she is completely healthy. This is why we always do a
complete health check at every vaccination appointment. Our vet will check the teeth, the eyes, the ears, the
breathing, the heart, the lymphe nodes, the musco-skeletal system and the body condition score. We will
discuss any abnormalities we find with you and will make a note in the patient file. Any questions you have
regarding you pet's health and wellbeing can be discussed at this time as well.
After the thorough health check we will discuss which vaccinations should be given to your pet. Sometimes
we deviate from the standard schedule, depending on the health status of your pet and whether your pet will
go abroad with you. This way we can prevent the overuse of vaccinations, while still ensuring the best
protection for your beloved pet!

Tip: give your dog or cat their worming treatment a week before the vaccination, this way the vaccination will
be more effective!

When should my rabbit be vaccinated?

If you are unsure about the vaccination status of your pet, please call our clinic on +31(0)35 ‑ 628 0162 or make an appointment online. Please always take your pet's passport to this appointment.

When do we vaccinate?

As you can see in the chart below, an adult dog needs a vaccination every year. You will receive a yearly reminder from us to make an appointment for this. The standard vaccination schedule for a dog is as follows:

Other than the above core vaccinations we sometimes consider a vaccination against non-core diseases:

Rabies

When you leave the Netherlands with your dog, it is mandatory to have him or her vaccinated against rabies. Your dog needs to be at least three months old before he or she can receive the first vaccination. The vaccination should be given at least 21 days before travelling. Some countries outside the EU have additional requirements. For more information check the website www.licg.nl. The rabies vaccination expires after three years.

Bordetella bronchiseptica

Bordetella is a bacterium that can cause kennel cough in the dog. An extra vaccination against this bacterium is necessary when your cat is in contact with a large group of dogs, for example in a kennel situation. Some kennels won't accept your dog without this extra vaccination.

Leptospirosis

If your dog has a lot of contact with wild rats, or swims a lot, it can be necessary to vaccinate your dog against leptospirosis every six months instead of yearly. If you are unsure about the vaccination status of your dog, please call our clinic on +31(0)35 ‑ 628 0162 or make an appointment online. Please always take your dog's passport to this appointment.

Animalphysiotherapy

Animalphysiotherapy

We provide animal physiotherapy at Evi dierenartsen Hilversum. Physiotherapy consists of massagetherapy, excersice therapy and modalities. After a thorough examination a treatmentplan will be made together with the owner. Homework is often part of it. You can also consult the physiotherapist to get tips for every day life with your old or ailing animal. If you think your animal needs physiotherapy, you need a referral from your veterinarian.

To see whether your pet needs physiotherapy, you’ll find a list of symptoms below.

  • Osteoarthrosis and complaints of old age
  • Spinal problems (such as: spondylosis, herniated discs, lumbrosacral instability)
  • Paralysis
  • Problems with muscles, tendons or ligaments
  • Joint disorders
  • Rehabilitation after surgery or fractures
  • Wounds or scars
  • Diminished results in sport

Possible signs for discomfort are:

If your dog:

  • Has more difficulties jumping in and out of the car or on the couch
  • Has difficulties walking the stairs
  • Avoids contact with other animals
  • Gets grumpy
  • Rises stiffly after some rest
  • Walks very slowly
  • Stretches more

If your cat:

  • Does not like to be petted any more
  • Has more difficulties jumping on or of the couch
  • Gets grumpy
  • Rises stiffly after some rest
  • Is unable to wash itself
  • Stops stretching

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy

In our practice we offer hydrotherapy as part of the physiotherapeutic treatment plan.
The underwater treadmill we use, is accessible for all dogs and cats, no matter what their size is. We adjust
the waterlevel, the temperature, the speed and the slope of the treadmill to the goal of the treatment.
If your pet comes for the first time, it needs a health certificate from it’s vet. But hydrotherapy also requires
some precautions regarding hygiene and general safety. Here is a list of things you have to take care of
before you come:

  • Bring a recent health certificate; hart and lungs need to be able to stand the excercise
  • No food 2 hours prior to the excercise
  • Brush the coat one day before coming
  • Give your dog the possibility to relieve itself shortly before the excercise
  • Bring a towel. Using our towels will cost you € 2,00 per towel
  • No hydrotherapy during heat
  • No hydrotherapy with open wounds or stitches

Hydrotherapy can be useful in case of:

  • Osteoarthrosis
  • Rehabilitation after joint surgery
  • Spinal problems (such as: spondylosis, herniated discs, lumbrosacral instability)
  • Problems with muscles, tendons or ligaments
  • Paralysis
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Diminished muscle strenght
  • Diminished endurance
  • Diminished results in sport
  • Obesity

Dental cleaning

Dental cleaning

Neglected dental problems can have huge consequences on the health of your pet. This is why a regular
check of your dog or cats teeth is of the utmost importance. During the yearly vaccination and health check
our vet will check the state of your pets teeth. If you have any concerns before the yearly check is due, you
are welcome to schedule an extra appointment for this. Click here to book an appointment online.

Did you know that?

  • 80% of dogs and 70% of cats start having dental problems from the age of 2?
  • Dental problems in dogs and cats can lead to heart, liver and kidney problems?
  • Dental problems in rabbits can cause wounds in the mouth and abscesses in the jaw?

The 5 steps to healthy teeth for your dog or cat

  1. A (free) six-monthly dental check by your vet. Book an appointment for this by phoning us on 035 –6280162, Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 18.00. If necessary an appointment for a dental procedure can be booked in for a later date.
  2. A tailored dental diet. Specifically designed diets for dental care can reduce plaque, tartar and gingivitis.
  3. Brushing teeth. The most thorough way of keeping your dog or cat's teeth clean is by brushing their teeth. There are specifically designed toothbrushes on the market for dogs and cats. You can use a toothpaste with poultry flavour, this toothpaste contains enzymes to stop the growth of bacteria in your pets mouth. You can find tips and tricks on brushing teeth in a dog or cat here: 'Brushing teeth of a dog / brushing teeth of a cat'.
  4. Chewies for the dog. There are chews available that reduce the growth of bacteria by mechanical cleaning as formation of plaque and tartar and leaves you pet with a pleasant smelling breath.
  5. Put Vet Aquadent® in the drinking water of your dog or cat: By drinking this solution daily, the teeth are automatically cared for several times a day (disinfecting, plaque-resistant, prevents tartar and refreshes the breath).
